The Highly
Stylized Dog Bone Sign

When Clear Creek Boarding & Grooming came to us for a sign, what they wanted was fairly standard. Everything, that is, but the shape of the sign itself. This sign needed to be an internally lit, roadside pylon sign... shaped like a dog bone. An out of the ordinary sign requires an out of the ordinary touch; one of our specialties.

The Challenge

Our client desired the sign to be shaped like a dog bone. This would require going much beyond just making straight cuts and keeping everything tight and square. We used a computer drawing transferred onto cardboard via our CNC router to have a visual to build on. Using the kerf cutting technique we were able to bend our square tubing to match the custom radius needed to create that iconic dog bone shape.

Skin and Bone

Once our fabricator got the correct radius, we duplicated it and began the process of stitching it all together. A nip here, a tuck there, add supports and a mounting bracket, and this bone is taking shape!
Then began the process of putting an aluminum skin around the whole shape, requiring some precision bending.

Brighten Up!

With the dog bone fully formed and fleshed out, the next step is color. We primed the sign, and then painted it with the customer's chosen color that we mixed in house with our own paint mixing system. Now a pretty teal color, the sign received the Hanley LED treatment for bright and efficient night lighting.

Give a Dog a Bone

The sign received two faces cut in house on our CNC router to the custom bone shape. We installed the vinyl graphics and mounted the sign to a base that we built and painted alongside the sign. You can find the sign and Clear Creek Boarding and Grooming just east of Providence on U.S. Highway 41A.
